Bill passed away in his 88th year at the Kingston General Hospital on Friday, May 16, 2014. Predeceased by his first wife Rita (McElhone) and his son William Joseph, sisters Ruth (Late Len) Hayley, Frances (Late Bryn) Hayes. He is survived by his second wife Anna (Ircha), his brother Ed (Marguerite), daughter-Judith Hatt (late Bill), daughter-Rose Marie Donaldson (Ken), son-Christopher (Heather Fox), daughter-Beverly Monk (Nathan), son-Stephen (Tatyana) and step-daughter Caitlin Ircha (Kevin Burtch). Also survived by 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Born on a farm in Tillsonburg, Bill graduated from the University of Toronto with a Chemical Engineering degree and worked for DuPont in Kingston for 35 years. Following retirement he worked as a Textile Consultant in Ontario and overseas. He was a member of The Institute of Textile Science, CGSB, ASTM and ISO. In addition to his work, Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, cabinet making and bird carving.
Friends will be received at the GORDON F. TOMPKINS FUNERAL HOMES, 435 Davis Drive (Centennial Dr. and Taylor-Kidd Blvd.) on Wednesday, May 21st from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph's Church, Palace Road, on Thursday,May 22 at 10:30 a.m. Rite of Committal with prayers in St. Mary's Cemetery. For those wishing, memorial donations to Kingston 4 Paws Academy (Autism Service Dogs) or Autism Ontario, Kingston Chapter would be greatly appreciated by his family.
