<div itemprop="description">Captain (Ret'd) Thomas George Whitehead CD <br /> <br /> Algonquin Regiment WW2 / RCEME Weapons Artificer Korea &amp; Reg Force - 1940-1975 <br /> <br />Thomas G, (AKA Tommy) passed away peacefully at the Perley &amp; Rideau Veteran's Health Centre in Ottawa on 16 October 2014, at the age of 87. Born and raised in Kingston, Tommy served with pride in the Prince of Wales Own Regiment and in action with the Algonquin Regiment during WW2. He demobilized in 1946 long enough to get a trade as a machinist then rejoined the second love of his life, the Army as a RCEME weapons artificer. Tommy served two tours of active combat in Korea and went on to enjoy a stellar career in the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, retiring from the Canadian Forces in 1975 as the Training Officer at Vehicle Company in the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace and Ordnance Engineering at CFB Borden. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />You can take the man out of the military, but can't take the military out of the man. Tommy was a proud professional soldier through and through. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Upon retiring back to his native Kingston, Tommy worked another 10 years with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Tommy was predeceased by the true love of his life, his wife and partner, Adriana Aplonia Van Paassen, affectionately known as Jeannie. He is survived by sister's Hilda Hay (Lindsay On.); Jeannie Ashwell (Australia); Eileen Jacob, (Kingston On.), brother George,( Delta On.), his niece Toni , her husband Jeff and step son, Phillip (Ottawa). <br /> <br />The family wishes to thank all of the Perley &amp; Rideau staff on Gatineau North, 1st and 2nd floors for all their kind care and compassion. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Family and friends will be received at the Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral Home - Township Chapel 435 Davis Drive Kingston, on Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 11:00 am- 1:00 p.m. Funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 p.m. Final place of rest Glenhaven Memorial Gardens.
