Candido, Maria Patricia “Patty”

On Saturday, June 11th, 2016, Maria Patricia “Patty” Gabaya Candido joined her parents Asuncion and Crisologo Gabaya, and her brothers Mariano and Alfredo, in heavenly rest.

She is survived by her husband Romeo T. Candido; children and children-in-law Romeo G. Candido and Caroline Mangosing, Katrina Candido, and Anna Lisa Candido and Mark C. Burke; her beloved grandchildren Rizal M. Candido and Lydia B. Candido; and constant companion Milo the dog.
Patty was a constant source of light and love to those who knew her -- from her early days in Manila and on the family farm in Batangas; to her days causing mischief with her friends and putting on plays at St. Scholastica’s College; to her life in Kingston, Ontario where she regularly gathered with friends and family over food, song, folk-dancing, stories, and prayer. She was a doting mother and grandmother, loyal wife and friend, vibrant member of the Filipino-Canadian community, and the backbone of the Institute of Intergovernmental Relations at Queen’s University where she served as administrative assistant for 30 years. She gave thoughtfully and selflessly in all of these roles and brightened many lives with her infectious laughter, razor-sharp wit, and limitless cheer. Although she was afraid of heights, she conquered mountains. In her most recent years, you could find her laughing at the table or on the phone with loved ones, baking allergen-free cakes for Rizal, knitting blankets for Lydia, serving her medical and prayer communities, or learning how to watercolour paint roses, birds, or the sun rise over a bahay kubo. She will forever be loved and missed deeply.

Visitation at the GORDON F.
