Turcke, David John

Passed away peacefully on November 26th, 2013 with his family at his side. He was born to the late John and Helen Turcke in Montreal, Quebec. Inclined towards academics, he garnered a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo. Upon completion of his doctorate, he moved to Kingston, Ontario to pursue a career as Professor of Engineering at Queen's University until his retirement. After retiring as the Head of the Civil Engineering Department at Queen's, he ventured into restaurant ownership/partnership that saw the inception of Murray Street in Ottawa, Ontario.

The loss of Dave is suffered by best friend and wife, Joan Fitzpatrick, and her children DJ and Emma LeBlanc. He is survived by his three children: MaryAnn (Gord McIlquham), Bob (Elizabeth), and Erin Turcke and their mother, Ann Cosgrove Zarichny. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Emily and JJ McIlquham, Isla and Hana Turcke, and by his sister Virginia (Ken) Grant.

From local neighbourhood diners to academic circles, Dave was a force that won the hearts of any and all who crossed his path. He had a life-long love affair with egg salad sandwiches, which anyone close to him could attest. He delivered a strong sense of fairness with an honest, dog-with-a-bone attitude, kind and patient with a captivating sense of humour.

A gathering will be held for all to celebrate Dave's life on Saturday, November 30th, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at The Ivy, 61 Shipman's Lane (Thousand Islands Parkway), Gananoque.
